"I can imagine a no more rewarding career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worth while, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction: "I served in the United States Navy."
President John F. Kennedy
speech given to Midshipmen at Bancroft Hall, USNA 1AUG1963
Founded in Evansville, Indiana in 2002 when USS Farragut (DLG 6) shipmates Gene Jennings, Merle Denny, and David Paulson gathered up some shipmates and held a reunion, this association steadily grew until June 9, 2006 when the membership met and DDG 37 shipmate Thomas Randall proposed that the association change its membership eligibility to ALL shipmates of ANY ship named Farragut past, present and future. His motion was unanimously approved and then a motion was made by him to change the name to reflect a unified association.
We are now the Farragut Ships' Association, a not-for-profit corporation incorporated in the State of Florida dedicated to preserving the memory of Admiral David Glasgow Farragut and to honoring the service of all men and women who have served or are currently serving aboard a ship named Farragut.
